This past year, you got married at a rustic lakeside wedding venue in New Jersey, you relaxed on your honeymoon, and maybe even bought a new house or started a family. Now it’s time to keep the love going by celebrating your first Valentine’s Day together as a married couple! In the past, Valentine’s Day may not have been much of a meaningful day for you—silly heart-shaped candies, flowers on flowers on flowers, and a candlelit dinner, or maybe none of the above—but now that you’re married, it’s important to appreciate all of these cheesy traditions with your spouse. We’ve compiled a list of our favorite ways to celebrate your first Valentine’s Day as a married couple.
Start a new tradition. The opportunities for a new romantic tradition are endless. Some of our favorite ideas include looking at your wedding album together, going on a mini vacation, or simply just enjoying your time together by watching a movie.
Write it out. Rather than spending money this year, show your love by making a list of what you admire about one another. Or, each of you can make a list of date ideas to last you for the whole year! Expressing your love through words can mean a lot more than a little gift from the store.
Cook together. This is a great idea for couples who would rather stay in and enjoy some alone time on Valentine’s Day. Either cook your favorite dish together, or take it up a notch and cook the meal that you ate on your wedding night.
The little things. Sometimes it’s the littlest things that mean the most. Check in on your spouse throughout the day by sending a text. Buy his favorite snack while you’re out food shopping. Hold her hand while you’re relaxing on the couch. Make him coffee. Start the car for him/her on a cold morning.
Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to remind your partner of how much they mean to you and why you are here celebrating your first Valentine’s Day together. Don’t just look at this as another day, take the time to embrace the romance and keep the love alive! Whether you are starting a new tradition or reminiscing about your wedding day at Rock Island Lake Club in Sparta, NJ, find something that makes you and your spouse feel as love-filled as you did on your wedding day.
